The biennial Shanghai auto show — around 380,000 square metres across the whole NECC, with press days from April 23 and public days running to May 2. It lands directly on the May Day national holiday.
Where to stay
This is the single hardest week to book in the next two years: a whole-venue fair stacked on top of a national holiday. Anything near Hongqiao or Qingpu should be secured months out, and expect holiday pricing across the whole city, not just the fair side.

Roughly a quarter of a kilometre from the National Exhibition and Convention Centre — close enough that during CIIE week you walk to your stand while everyone else queues for a car. That proximity is the entire proposition, and during the big fairs it is worth a great deal.
Cordis Shanghai Hongqiao
Two hundred metres from Hongqiao Railway Station and connected to it — which means the airport, the high-speed rail network and the NECC are all short hops. If your week involves a fair plus a day trip to Suzhou or Hangzhou, this is the address that makes both easy.
IntercityHotel Shanghai Hongqiao Transportation Hub
Inside the Hongqiao hub itself with direct metro access — the German upscale line that Huazhu runs in China, built for exactly this: arrive by rail or air, sleep, work the fair, leave. The Airport Link Line from Pudong terminates in the same complex.
Hyatt Place Shanghai Hongqiao CBD
The mid-range option in the Hongqiao business district, within reach of both the hub and the exhibition halls — the sensible pick when the delegation is three people and the budget is not a suite each.
